Kaavad – Wisdom in a box!

The 400-hundred-year-old art of colourful storytelling is a rare find in parts of India as a few artisans explore novel ways of sustaining it… The art of Kaavad is said to have originated in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Kaavad is essentially a multi-panelled wooden box that is especially crafted by the Sutar - a carpenter community of Mewar with multiple hinged doors simulating the multiple ‘dwars’ of a temple until one reaches the sanctum sanctorium where the diety is stationed.
